Luca possesses a very searching, fervent imagination allied to a rigorous compositional technique and he never relies merely on what has been done before but strives to find new kinds of musical rhetoric and design. Melodic lines of considerable beauty and attractiveness always shine through his music — not always a common feature of modern repertoire. I attribute this to the influence of his generational predecessors Luigi Dallapiccola and Luigi Nono as much as the heritage of the Italian language itself which contains such abundant melodic qualities in sound, rhythm and structure.
